On October 13th, Artists for Puerto Rico hosted Kura: Healing Through Taino Land & Legacies centered the healing of Taino people—as the first to encounter Columbus—on the weekend of Indigenous People’s Day, formerly known as Columbus Day. Community members gathered and participated in a series of art making, writing, and meditative workshops. The event was hosted in collaboration with AM:PM Gallery as it debuted the ‘Nueva York’ exhibition celebrating Latin artists based in the New York City area.

PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE 2024

New York, NY

In June of 2024, Artists for Puerto Rico took part in the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. The parade is the oldest and longest-running Latino heritage parade in New York City and the largest demonstration of cultural pride in the nation. We took the opportunity to march alongside other independence groups turning the parade into a protest against the American imperialism and colonization of the country of Puerto Rico. At the red carpet ‘photo opp,’ Artists for Puerto Rico and Victory in Puerto Rico staged a ‘die in’ which was immediately met with police escalation that resulted in an arrest.
